Sound
As we’re sure you’re aware, a known challenge with P90 pickups is the hum. Rest assured: we’ve solved that problem and found a unique, versatile sonic footprint where the P-92 fits perfectly.
The P-92 features a cleaner and more articulate overall tone. It’s more “polite” than our Hum Cancelling P90s, and much clearer-sounding than our Pure P.A.F. That said, the P-92 offers you a thick, warm midrange accompanied by a stiffer and rounder treble – perfect for many music styles.
The P-92 is quick to break up, but you’ll find that it’s still clearer, like traditional Vintage P90s. Built with alnico V magnets, we use 42-gauge or 43 gauge wire depending on the strength you need.
When playing clean, you’ll find that this pickup has a thicker, bold tone with a stiff high end. With distortion, you’ll find that the grind is dirtier than our Big Single, but not as much as a typical Humbucker.
It all starts here: our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Our P-92’s consist of USA-Made bobbins, baseplates, magnets, and wire.
We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, bright tone. We assemble each pickup one at a time, by hand. This allows us to achieve unbeatable attention to detail. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to prevent microphonics and to preserve the pickup for years to come.

2 We recommend a 0.02mfd Cap Value on most guitar and bass pickups. The exception is a Magic Cap, which Lindy prefers on the Bridge Pickup of Fender® guitars only. Learn More about Caps Here.
* Due to the unique design of this pickup, ohm readings are not useful when comparing to other models. This pickup is medium output, and leans to a cleaner, clearer tone.

Here's how we wind and magnetize our pickups:
If you're buying a set from us, all pickups will work together seamlessly. If you're buying a single pickup, all you need to worry about is Coil Direction.
To ensure your pickup will work, make sure you select multiple leads (2-Conductor, 3-Conductor, or 4-Conductor if available), or the 3-Wire modification so you can reverse the coil direction, if need be.

Great, brighter Humbucker alternative. Brighter than I expected with the screw pole pieces but still very musical and never harsh. Wake up your dull, humbucker equipped guitar!

I have the P92s in a Telecaster Deluxe American Professional 2016…they’re the most versatile pickups I’ve ever owned. I play on tour for Jamey Johnson and he covers a lot of musical ground. The P92s make it easy to dial into to warm jazzy tones, dirty southern rock and clean chicken pickin’ country .I manage to cover it all on the one guitar. I would definitely purchase again.

Lovely pickup! Was searching something different for T-style guitar with CuNiFe WRHB in neck. The looks matched too.
Haven’t own a P90 guitar before, but long time wanted one. With minimal hum, because playing environment is quite “dirty” electrically (all kinds of interference sources).
Alone P-92 is gritty and gnarly, but still articulate. Organic with an edge, responsive, breaks up beautifully, and when using the tone pot can reach jazzier sounds if needed. In the middle position it blends beautifully with Wide Range Humbucker when correct adjustments and balance was found. Brings certain in the mix “ding” while WRHB offers “bloom” 😀 .. I’ve got an out of phase switch too and when using volume pots with it, yet another world opens.
Was first little worried how it pairs with a hottish humbucker, but result is great. At least for my purposes (blues, grunge, punkish stuff, rock). P-92 carries itself and also work as a pair. Although used actually few days adjusting and finding the sweet spots.

P 92 pickup set
I put these in a Gibson SG and they sound amazing. They are very clear and balanced. They really come alive when pushed into distortion. I couldn’t be happier. The youtube videos represent them very well.

I bought a pair of gold P92s from MacDaddy Music. Installed in an Epiphone Lucille, they turned a dark, somewhat muddy-sounding guitar without a lot of personality into a real gem. Highly recommended.

I put a P-92 front pickup on an ES-335. To me, it sounds better than the humbucker did. I play a Strat a lot of the time and the P-92 is more reminiscent of a strat front pick up than the humbucker was. It is also dead quiet, no hum.

P-92s in a D’Angelico 335 style
I swapped out the stock Kent Armstrong humbuckers with the Fralin P-92s in my D’Angelico 335 style guitar. The P-92s sound really clear as I had hoped. The stock humbuckers sounded muddy to my ear – good for blues, perhaps. Not so good for jazz and Latin/African music that I often play. To my surprise, the P92s also improved the dynamic response of the instrument. The “touch” of the guitar is improved/enhanced with the P-92s. I have a Godin archtop (Uptown) that plays and sounds very good. It has Godin humbuckers. The P-92s have a better dynamic touch/response than these pickups. I am considering P-92s for this guitar…haven’t decided. I appreciate Lindy’s personal input. It helped a lot. Thanks, Boston musician, Mark Torgerson

Nice replacement! My faux Telecaster had a muddy humbucker in the neck position. I replaced it with a P-92 to brighten the sound. It worked like a dream.
-
I don’t get along with standard Humbuckers. They just don’t work for me, but I really like p90 type tones. Part of the issue is that I play with a big fat gypsy pick — 3.5mm — and I hit really, really, really hard. This causes a perceived “scoop” in the mids with a regular humbucker and causes the low notes on the E and A strings to disappear on the bandstand.
Why I waited so long to try a p-92 is beyond me. I put it in the neck position of my Comins GCS-16 laminated archtop and it’s exactly what I wanted. Brighter than a p90, but still with a good mids support. I play through either a PRRI or a 5E3 clone. Jazz, Swing and a bit of Jump Blues.
I previously had the Hum-Cancelling P-90 in a Humbucker Cover in the guitar and while it was a good sound, it was a bit darker than I wanted and a bit too compressed for my tastes. I also tried a p90 in Humbucker Cover and it was way too dark in that guitar. The p92 is right in the goldilocks zone, not too bright, not too dark, not too mid-heavy, not too scooped. It’s just right.

Love these P-92s. Excellent range and variety of tones.

A Loyal Fralin Guitar Player
Lindy, thank you so much for the personal attention and advice that you and your staff provided in my decision to try the Pure PAFs in my Gibson ES-335 and your P-92’s in my Gibson SG Supreme. Both were older guitars with the original humbuckers. I am absolutely sold on the new Fralin pickups and they are everything that you said they would be and more. The clarity, expressiveness, and articulation of these pickups is phenomenal! I am a blues and jazz style player and tend to favor a cleaner sound letting the natural tube saturation of my amps do the work. The Pure PAFs are perfect in my ES-335 and “pure” is the best description I can think of. The P-92s in my SG is nothing short of amazing. I know some “soapbar” purists may not agree, but I can’t tolerate single-coil hum. These pickups are completely noiseless and they now give my SG a tonal character and range I never thought possible. I am now eyeing up some other guitars in my collection for a possible Fralin makeover! Thank you again. -
I put a P92 in the bridge position of a Music Man Silhouette. After speaking to Mr. Fralin about what I was trying to achieve, he sent me the pickup and it delivered…big time. Beautiful, snappy cleans at low volume morphing into very smooth and round as the volume on the amp is turned up. Somewhere between Fender and Gibson.Pretty much what I was hoping for and dead quiet. A true gem. Highly recommended. Great service from a guy who knows his stuff.

Sweet distinct upgrade. Being mounted in neck position Les Paul Classic Ebony with original 61 R/61 T Zebra pickups w/push-pull coil-tap. The stock pickup was too muddy and raw for my taste and style. Fralin P-92 gives clarity, high string distinction, dynamics, and a lovely punch. Love it.

I just received and installed a P92 pickup for my EP LP JR.
You guys probably hear this all the time, but all i can say is – WOW! It sounds just fantastic, and is dead quiet as advertised and as i hoped for, but didn’t really expect to achieve.
Does it sound like a real P90? I don’t know. I don’t have one handy to compare.
Does it sound like i imagined it would in this guitar? Yes, absolutely what i was hoping for.
Thanks, and you can expect more orders from me in the future.

Perfect for me, bought em’ twice
I put the stock P92s in my Les Paul years ago and loved them so much that I decided to put a slightly underwound pair in my semi-hollow body. They’re perfect, great detail and midrange without sounding harsh, and as everyone who’s played through these will tell you, the neck is killer with its tight low end. Totally noiseless too! -
I assembled a Strat style guitar from Warmoth parts for my son. I installed a pair of these pickups–a bit pricey for me, but they were exactly what I was looking for. I ordered another one for a new build for me, but haven’t gotten around to that yet, so I installed it in the neck position of a Les Paul. The sound out of that pickup is exactly what I wanted as well. These P92 pickups are very nice sounding. Warmer than single coils, but much quieter than P90’s, and much more articulate than most humbuckers I’ve tried over the years. And my son is satisfied with his guitar!

Nailed it
After a few emails explaining what I was looking for tone-wise, the Fralin folks suggested an underwound P92. It really sounds great, having some of the girth of a P90 without being too midrange-y!
