Sound
As we’re sure you’re aware, a known challenge with P90 pickups is the hum. Rest assured: we’ve solved that problem and found a unique, versatile sonic footprint where the P-92 fits perfectly.
The P-92 features a cleaner and more articulate overall tone. It’s more “polite” than our Hum Cancelling P90s, and much clearer-sounding than our Pure P.A.F. That said, the P-92 offers you a thick, warm midrange accompanied by a stiffer and rounder treble – perfect for many music styles.
The P-92 is quick to break up, but you’ll find that it’s still clearer, like traditional Vintage P90s. Built with alnico V magnets, we use 42-gauge or 43 gauge wire depending on the strength you need.
When playing clean, you’ll find that this pickup has a thicker, bold tone with a stiff high end. With distortion, you’ll find that the grind is dirtier than our Big Single, but not as much as a typical Humbucker.
It all starts here: our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Our P-92’s consist of USA-Made bobbins, baseplates, magnets, and wire.
We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, bright tone. We assemble each pickup one at a time, by hand. This allows us to achieve unbeatable attention to detail. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to prevent microphonics and to preserve the pickup for years to come.

2 We recommend a 0.02mfd Cap Value on most guitar and bass pickups. The exception is a Magic Cap, which Lindy prefers on the Bridge Pickup of Fender® guitars only. Learn More about Caps Here.
* Due to the unique design of this pickup, ohm readings are not useful when comparing to other models. This pickup is medium output, and leans to a cleaner, clearer tone.

Here's how we wind and magnetize our pickups:
If you're buying a set from us, all pickups will work together seamlessly. If you're buying a single pickup, all you need to worry about is Coil Direction.
To ensure your pickup will work, make sure you select multiple leads (2-Conductor, 3-Conductor, or 4-Conductor if available), or the 3-Wire modification so you can reverse the coil direction, if need be.

So I am new to the world of SG guitars. I have spent the better part of my 30 years of playing guitar with Fender Strats and Teles. The stock neck humbucker on my SG sounded muddy and unusable. However, the P-92 solved that problem. In the middle position, it blends well with the bridge pickup but has its own chime-y clarity in the neck position. Thanks for saving my SG Mr. Fralin!!!

Very balanced and articulate.
Sounds like a clear articulate humbucker, which is just what I wanted. Thank you. -
Awesome!!!!

Ordered the P-92 for my MIM Strat with a DiMarzio FS-1 middle and factory neck (I unapologetically love the tone of the MIM early 2000s Fender neck PUPs). A week later, I ordered the Blender Pot Kit and bought a 500k pot. Wired it up using the Modified HSS diagram but only used the Magic Cap on the tone pot. Then I finally plugged in. I don’t really know how to explain it. I can only say that there is an elegance in Mr. Fralin’s genius. Also, it can’t go without saying that the quality of the customer service is as good as the products. I actually can’t say that because this Lindy Blender Bucker is so badass but you get the point. 5 stars.

Best Sounding Pickup! 9000 turns – rich harmonics, full, good clarity, and very dynamic. Works well with all my pedals. I installed this in modified Tele HH. I eliminated the neck pickup and installed the P92 in the bridge position and modified the switching.

I’m pleased
I ordered a neck P-92 with the recommended winding (whatever that is). It sounds pretty much exactly as described: a slightly airy P-90. Paired here with a tapped humbucker. Has enough top end to blend nicely with the single coil (with series humcanceling coil) and enough beef to match the full humbucker, and sounds great by itself, like a slightly underwound P90.In case you can’t tell, I’m pleased. Would order again.

I purchased a set of the P-92’s for a custom built Tele-deluxe that I’d had for years. The guitar is very light Swamp Ash body with a really fat Maple neck with an Ebony slab finger board. I originally had a set of Seymour Duncan ‘59s, which were sweet, but didn’t have much (any?) snap, or clarity. The neck was pretty muddy and indistinctive. Especially if you were over driving the amp.
I’ve always liked single coil pups, but wanted to keep some deeper midrange in an already bright guitar. My thought was humbucker sized P-90’s, but after talking it through with a sales representative at Fralin I went with the P-92’s.
These pickups are really clear, sweet and musical. They are dead quiet. They break up nicely when you’re pushing the amp. They really retain their definition where ever you’re taking them. The neck pup is really, truly awesome. The Bridge has nice squawk and bite. I have a .002 cap to roll off the highs if I’m using an overdrive or soloing.
I’m really liking how my guitar is sounding. I wish I could report on how it sits in a mix with drums and bass, but I haven’t been playing out. It definitely sounds great in jams with other guitar players. Looking forward to surveying my axe through some different amps.
Theses pickups are not “really” P-90 sounding in my guitar. My guitar sounds pretty unique, in a good way. I would be interested to see what they sound like in a Mahogany/Mahogany version of my guitar? I’m sure they would have a different voice. Bottom line, all Lindy Fralin pickups (that I’ve played) are extremely musical.
If you’re looking for a big sounding, P-90’ish, dead quiet, single coil pickups, these are really great! The tone really lets you and your instrument speak. -
Love the p92’s!!!! From beautiful clean jazz tones to screaming overdriven blues rock these babies deliver. Thank you!!!

I had been thinking about adding some Fralin pickups to my 2001 Gibson ES-335 for several years. The guys were kind enough to let me come into the shop and try some of their humbucker options. I was looking for more articulation (less mud) on my neck pickup and was thinking the Sunbucker would do the trick. Tyler suggested I try the P-92, which wasn’t on my radar at all. It magically ticked all of the boxes! The wound strings have more clarity and less mud than the stock Gibson ’57 Classics but the plain strings still sound fat like a humbucker. It almost sounds like there is a separate pickup for the wound and plain strings, it’s amazing! This pickup is not overly bright in the neck position of my 335, it still sounds very fat but has a lot more clarity than the stock pickups. It also breaks up in a very cool and dynamic way. Grittier than the ’57 Classics, more like a single-coil. It’s a joy to play with the dynamics and hear the response from the pickup. Mine is 8,000 winds which pairs really well with the 7.6k Pure PAF I had put in the bridge position. If you’re looking for some more clarity in your neck humbucker (even if you’re not a P-90 fan), I highly suggest checking these out. They really surprised me and I’m so glad they are in my #1 guitar.
I’ll be back soon to add some of the Fralin magic to more of my guitars. The pickups sound incredible and all of the guys in the shop are friendly, approachable and REALLY know what they’re talking about. Thanks!

I probably looked at 20 different pickup sets and listened to twice as many sound clips. These sound so amazing, I’m even happier with them than I thought I’d be. I put a set of 8,200/9,200 in my Epiphone SG project guitar and it sounds amazing. Easily as good if not better than some Gibson SGs I’ve played. P-92s really took this project to the next level, super happy I chose to go with these.
I was looking to get a little more bite and added string/note clarity with a punch in the mids and these definitely did it. They honestly exceeded my expectations.
For reference, using for: Pysch Rock/Garage Rock, lot’s of delay, fuzz, reverb, chorus pedals >> Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212

My objective: The P90 punch from my ES-355 with no modification. I looked around, read A LOT of reviews on P90 options. I found tons of praise for the P92 and zero complaints. I knew the Fralin name, but never dropped a set in any of my guitars. Before I ordered, I thought I’d call the help line for some opinions, and Lindy answered. Sorry, that just impressed me. If I owned a business, put my name on a product, I’d like to take the call, which anyone knows isn’t as possible/probable as it may seem. After our conversation and a wee bit more deliberation I ordered a set online (8000 neck, 9200 bridge) before the Christmas deadline (present for me). They were delivered before the big day as advertised and I installed the day after, HAPPY! They make my Epi shine, scream, and articulate anything and everything I was hoping to hear from my workhorse. Mission accomplished, thank you.

Having loved the Fralin P90s in my tele (which I still love), I decided to try a P92 for the bridge position of my HSS strat. I had a very nice humbucker in that position, but was having difficulty balancing it with the two single coil pickups, in terms of volume of gain. Well, the P92 was a great idea, as it balances well with single coils. To me, it has the feel of a P90 with the warmth of an older humbucker. When I switch between the neck and bridge pickups, I hear absolutely no change in volume, which makes me very happy. The tone of the P92 in a clean amp reminds me of early B.B. King. Single notes are warm, but well-defined. With some overdrive, it has a nice, midrangy “squawk” that reminds me of the first few ZZ Top albums. Overall, great pickup! Thanks!!

Lindy, you’ve done it again! I just had my local luthier install your 8200/9200 P92 set in my 2017 Gibson SG Standard T. I’ll be the first to admit I know little about what makes these pickups work so well, but I’ve been playing for over 40 years and I am DANG picky about tone. The P92s in this guitar are pure magic- articulate enough for clean chording, comping and soloing; convincing jazz tones with the tone controls rolled back on the guitar and, cranked, through a JRAD Archer (Klon type pedal) into a 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb PTP … WOAH! Somehow thick and biting at the same time- articulate yet “in your face” crunch and sustain! Glorious tone on both neck and bridge pickups and, unusual for me- fantastic tone in the middle position too! I had to force myself to put the guitar down this morning in order to get to work on time! ALSO, before purchasing these pickups I spoke with Lindy via phone; as always he is kind and gracious, answering questions and treating me like I was someone special (I’m not a pro performer- just a guitar nut!). Thanks so much Lindy! If this old guy can manage it- I’ll post some clips on the cloud for others to evaluate…

I’ve been installing and recommending P-92s for the past 10 years. I’ve never heard of anyone that wasn’t absolutely thrilled with the tone. Install a set and have a P-90 dream machine without the soapbar routing, or put one in the neck position opposite a high output humbucker at the bridge for a very versatile tone monster. This is one pickup that I’d say would truly work great in any type of guitar. It’s just a matter of what flavor of awesome tone you’ll get based on what you put them in. Fralin customer service has always been great as well.

I just replaced the Seth Lover Humbucker in my G&L Bluesboy with this P92, and it sounds phenomenal. So thrilled with the tone, bite and character of this pick up, and how it blends with the single coil bridge. It is magical. Thank you!
-
Fantastic pick ups. They replaced a set of stock Seth’s in my Heritage H525. They sound great.
-
Got the 8,200 neck and 9,200 bridge. They sound like really FAT, hot, overwound p90’s. Full and round yet still bitey with great sustain and harmonic content. They are absolutely dead silent. Put them into some fuzz and delay and have some real fun. Excellent for leads. My new favorite pickups.

I purchased a neck P92 and a bridge Dimarzio 36th Anniversary last year for my favorite guitar. After installing the pickups, I realized that in this guitar the neck sounded a bit too dark and the bridge sounded a bit too bright. Huh….
So, I swapped them and it’s magic.
The P92 is, without a doubt, my favorite pickup ever. The tone is fantastic. It has great low end (firm and powerful-not wooly or undefined) and a sweet top end (just the right amount of bite and sparkle), but it’s the mids that make this stand out. In a shootout with every other humbucker sized P90 around (https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/20058-humbucker-sized-p-90-review-roundup?page=3), the P92 stood out with one other – the Fralin P0. The reason why these 2 stood out is the mids were wonderfully complex. I could hear frequencies present in these 2 that were missing in almost every other pickup.
I play heavy music. REALLY heavy music. This pickup is the best sounding pickup I have ever used. The P92 is totally responsive to playing dynamics and volume control adjustments. It can whisper, sing, scream and roar. Even at full gain, you can just lower the volume and voila! You get a great crunch with amazing dynamics. Dime it and it’s a monster (albeit one wearing a Tuxedo and speaking articulately before it rips your face off).
Thank you Mr. Fralin. You made my favorite player my best sounding guitar as well.
