Sound
Fralin P-Bass Pickups are like our J-Bass® Replacements: they have a huge fat tone. Fralin P-Bass Pickups are fat, punchy, and round. The lows are deep and rich, and the highs are sweet and clear. The first thing you’ll notice when you install these pickups is how you can hear more of your P-Bass. You’ll hear an extended low-end and a rounder top-end. These pickups are very vintage sounding, but with modern power.
- For an era-authentic 50’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- For an even thicker tone than the +5%, you can opt for +10%. This is perfect for anyone looking for an aggressively strong midrange and dark tone. Perfect for balancing out a bright sounding bass.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

Ok – You want growl? You want punch? You want fully rounded mids? Sometimes you want crisp definition, and sometimes full-tone lingering notes? And that ole- 2015 P-bass aint giving you what you want (like mine)?
Call up the Fralin folks, order a replacement, slap it in and your tonal dreams will come true.
Amazing – sincere thanks to the Fralin Team -
I am on my 3rd set of the 5% overwind pickups for my Vintage early 70’s P-basses. I just love all of the tones that i can now get from basses, Just pure Magic! Thanks for a Great product!

I’d give a six star if possible. Absolutely the best pickup I have tried. I’d consider myself an intermediate player that has played for many years. I am a 1st time buyer of Fralin and am sure I will be a returning customer. I have 2023 Fender American Vintage II 1960 precision bass that I have installed the Fralin Pickups on. The stock pickups that came from Fender had the mid-range tones I wanted, but I needed more especially on the low end. I communicated this to Fralin, and they recommended their standard P-Bass pickups. I picked them up, installed them, and they sound terrific. Don’t hesitate to buy these pickups, they are worth every penny. The only recommendation that I have is a few extra inches on the wire length would have been nice. I made a mistake stripping the wire, and the remaining length was just enough to install. No issues, there was still enough, but a little extra would have been nice and would have released the pressure to get it right the second time. 🙂

I bought this for a new Fender American Pro II, but the pick up in it didn’t suck like I had read so I left it in. I have a Carvin PB4 that had a Fender 62 Original in it and I thought it was perfect and didn’t want to change it.
I got bored and decided to drop it in the Carvin pbass and I gotta say the Fralin stock p bass pick up met all the hype. That rarely happens. It is a very pleasant and balanced pick up. The sounds has got that just right feel and sound. It’s bad ass, but not obnoxious. Just a cool confident tone.
If the fender 62 original is a Marine, the Fralin is a Navy Seal. Both cool and bad ass, but the Fralin is just got more to the tone. I see why studio players love them. -
I like a round, balanced sound with some (but not too much) definition. I’ve been chasing that tone unsuccessfully for years, trying several well-known and well-respected pickups that came close but never quite hit the mark. I’d recently read so many good things about the Fralin standard wind that I thought I’d try one. I installed it in my 2012 American PB, and within 15 seconds of playing I knew I’d finally found what I’d been searching for. This pickup is not only incredibly well-balanced up and down the range, it also sounds harmonically rich and complex—even the E string. I have no idea how Lindy is accomplishing that. I’m using it with worn-in (but not dead) Rotosound roundwounds and a 0.1 uF tone cap. With the tone control wide open… magic! Rolling the control back a bit doesn’t make things muddy, either. A minor nit: the stock pickguard wouldn’t fit over the covers, so I just used Fender covers I had in my stash. I still give the pickup five stars because it’s such a vast improvement over everything I’ve previously tried. Huge, huge difference. Thank you, Lindy.

I put this in a Fender JP-90 and the difference is remarkable. Fralin’s never disappoint and of course their P bass pickups are no exception.
-
Honestly the best Precision Bass pickups I’ve ever tried! The highs, the lows, and the mids are just beyond perfect. Playing these pickups are like magic and sit in any mix perfectly. Some of the best quality and work I have ever seen. Thank you Fralin!

My new favorite pickups!

I bought a set of Lindy Fralin pickups for my Fender P-bass about three years ago. They were wound -5% per my order. I put them in the bass, played it once or twice and stuck the bass in the closet with the other dozen or so basses. I got it out last night and played a gig with it and was amazed at how good the bass sounded. I had forgotten how much of a difference it made. I have a few basses that some would consider, “high end” basses, and I was a Seymoure Duncan fanatic for a while, but the bass with the Lindy Fralin pickups sound just as good as my Warwicks, my Carvin, and the ones with Seymoure Duncans in them for a lot less money. I am sold on Lindy Fralin.

My name is Jay King and I spoke with you on the phone a couple of weeks ago and asked for your recommendations for your P Bass pickup. Well, I received it much faster than you estimated and I put it in as soon as it came. I firstly, wanted to say THANK YOU for your time, your recommendation. This pickup is Absolutely AMAZING. It is By Far, the most articulate and amazingly voiced P Pickup that I have ever played. Dream tone! Really! I’m gushing, but I just had to drop you a note and say thank you and just, WOW. So very pleased with this pickup. I will be back for more in the future as I begin to fill my stable with more P’s, now that I know that they can sound like this!
-
I’ve tried a few different pickups other than stock Fender through the years. This pickup brings my old 65 P-bass back to life. Very satisfied with the product and Lindy’s company.
-
It’s not my first Fralin pickup, so I knew, what I gonna get from Fralin. Tone and output is just perfect to me. Thank you, guys.

Bought a stock pickup (along with CTS pots, new capacitor, and Switchcraft jack) to go in a NOS ’21 MIM P-bass. The body and neck are excellent, but the sound was lifeless and indistinct with a 60-cycle hum. Decided to skip Fender customer (no) service and go DIY. Lindy’s pickup is great. To my mind, it is benchmark P-bass sound, with an elusive clarity coupled with richness, color, and a singing quality. (Lindy also did wonders for a Longhorn Jazz Bass in the stable.) Thank you, Lindy and company. You are a blessing.

Purchased 2 P bass sets, one for p bass and 0ne for a guild starfire with a push pull switch. The difference in sound over stock pickups is nothing short of awesome. I can now get so many different tones it really is a lot of fun.
-
I have fitted the standard Fralin in all my Precision basses (even in my Custom Shop P). Sounds just like a good Precision should sound: clear low, powerful and punchy. Also sounds great with a layer of overdrive. It’s the tone you hear on good recordings.

Guitar player getting into bass. Have been using Fralins in my tele and Les Paul for many years so put these in my MIM P Bass. Noticiable difference over stock – really like them. Disclaimer – not a bass expert but would 100% recommend these pickups. Oh and fantastic customer service!
-
I just put a stock-winding P-bass pickup in my 2008 Lakland Bob Glaub, which came with a pickup built by them. The difference is total, and just a complete transformation. Perfect.

Ok, just got my fralin p bass pickup installed in my 2012 fender American standard precision bass. I traded this bass used a few years ago for some records in my collection I didn’t want anymore. Kinda cool swap. Anyways in cans with a fender custom shop p bass pickup that sounded horrible in my opinion. 30 years playing fender basses. I put a bartolini in it…nope. Horrible, put a Seymour Duncan spb-1 in it and that was really pretty good. Not good enough. Just sounded like a Mexican p bass actually…. So I bought a fralin…BUT I left it up to framing when I ordered the spec of the pickup. I told them I wanted a pickup that sounded like Adam Clayton’s p bass back in 1980-82. Fralin sends me a 10% overwound. Installed: bass tones slice with sweet harmonics and mid range groan…..best pickup I ever heard in a p bass. Totally awesome. I love it.

I’ve had the standard wind P-Bass pickup in my Player Series P-Bass for a couple of years now and it sounds so dang good. I’ve been using it a lot recently with some DI bass recordings and it could not sound any better. So much tone and clarity!

This is what I think a P-Bass should sound like. Excellent sound all around. Easy installation. Great product! Can’t wait to receive the PJ set for my other bass!
