Sound
Fralin P-Bass Pickups are like our J-Bass® Replacements: they have a huge fat tone. Fralin P-Bass Pickups are fat, punchy, and round. The lows are deep and rich, and the highs are sweet and clear. The first thing you’ll notice when you install these pickups is how you can hear more of your P-Bass. You’ll hear an extended low-end and a rounder top-end. These pickups are very vintage sounding, but with modern power.
- For an era-authentic 50’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- For an even thicker tone than the +5%, you can opt for +10%. This is perfect for anyone looking for an aggressively strong midrange and dark tone. Perfect for balancing out a bright sounding bass.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

P-Bass pickups – fast delivery
I haven’t yet built the rest of the bass to put these in, so I don’t know how they sound (no doubt they’ll be great based on reputation), but they were delivered quickly to Canada with no issues.

5% overwound P-Bass pups
Popped them in my ‘77 P-Bass and wow! The classic P-Bass tone on steroids! -
PHAT these pickups rock! Plenty of bottom. Beefy and have grit. Sound great in a mix. Give them a go! You won’t be disappointed

Custom build
Just finished a custom build and I installed the 10% overwound pbass pickups and wow. Punchy, load, clean, and clear. I will be using Fralin in future builds. -
The Sound I’ve Been Seeking
I bought the LF P-bass pickup because I record directly into the board and needed to get that famous P bass sound. I bought the “regular” wound because I had heard the over and under wound pickups change the tone.
I am very happy with the workmanship and comparability with my 90s Fender American made bass. One slight problem was the cream colored covers were about 0.010 larger than the original Fender stock. I had to file the pick guard slightly to allow the pickup to float and be easily adjustable.

Stock P bass pup
Replaced the stock pickup in my Fender American Original 60s P bass with a stock wind Fralin. Totally amazing combo. The bass sounds round, fat, clear, and punchy. Customer service is second to none. No mater if you call, email, or just place an order online. Everyone is friendly and very helpful, from the main man himself right on down the line. Great American company with an excellent product and service. Placed another order for a pickup, pots, wire, and cap for a Squier CV 50s P bass. Again, excellent service. Thanks for everything Lindy Fralin and company. All my basses will have your pickups in them. They’re that good.

Harmonics at every fret!!
I don’t really know how these could be any better. There are a lot of great pickup makers out there and Lindy himself will tell you that. This is a preference between players but out of the pickups I’ve tried. These have been my personal favorite. So clear you can hear a harmonic at every fret, perfect winding and even volume across strings, exact wound to preference. Not to mention the customer service is second to none, everyone has their preference but I like these best. If you haven’t gotten a chance, give Lindy a call and talk tone with him. Can’t say enough good things. -
I’ve tried some other precision pickups from other manufacturers with differing results. But I tried a standard wound Fralin Pbass pickup in a Mexican Fender Pbass and was amazed. I was so impressed I put another standard pbass in a Peavey Fury. And most recently I put a under 5% pbass pickup in my Ibanez Roadstar RB630. Fralin pickups are awesome! They have the full sound I want but are still extremely sensitive to finger dynamics. I think they nail what a p bass should sound like. I cannot see myself using anything else as far as bass is concerned. I think they are perfect.

I had a short-scale bass built by Trevor Binford, as quality short-scale basses are few and far between[excepting Alembic $$$$$].They record great, sit in the mix well [fewer Harmonics] and are a bit easier to play
Fender seem to think they are student instruments, Gibson make some , but the “mud-buckers” predictably produce “mud”
Other brands are mostly copying Fender and Gibson, and aim at “cheap and cheerful” with the highest output pickups they can find , or make.
I had a laminated through neck instrument made and Fralin split single coil P-Bass pick-up fitted with lots of shielding[its a studio bass], and its deep, rich, detailed, characterful, and sustains for days. Its a tone beast.
You can’t beat hand made quality and experience. -
Love this pickup!
I installed these in a 2003 American Standard Precision to replace the original Fender pickups with S-1 switching. The Fenders weren’t bad by any means, but the Fralins just turned them up to 11 without sounding overly aggressive. Everything was just bumped up a bit. My bass now sounds more full and thick. Great pickups and great people to deal with. -
David John Lynch “Diamond” P bass
Man these pickups rock in so many ways. Clean, clear and accurate but punchy and ballsey at the same time with just the right amount of output. That type of sound that makes you wanna just keep jammin all day long. Just gorgeous. Great job guys thanks so much. Diamond -
Wow, I can’t say enough about this pickup.
I picked up a 1978 Precision, which someone along the way replaced the original pickup with a Bass Lines pickup.
The bass was kicking out so much midrange I thought I was need of a fret job.
I replaced with a stock Lindy. (My first)
The low end punches right through.
The tone of the bass, the original fatness is upfront.
Lost is all that nasal midrange and best of all, no fret work is needed.. =)
I am sold on Lindy Fralin pickups.

P-Bass 5% and 10% overwound
I put a 5% over pickup in the neck position of one of my early ‘70’s P-Basses that I have a 2P-Bass pickup configuration (not P/J but P/P), and the other pickup on the bridge is a 10% over. The sound is awesome, once I lowered this pickup in the neck position down and balanced the volume of the two pickups this bass has just the right amount of growl, with lots of clarity and good hearty tone on the high strings! I’m going to be doing a 5% Neck 10% Bridge setup on a 1970 Jazz Bass next with a Split Jazz Bass set I bought here at the same time as I bought this one.

It’s how the P-Bass wants to sound
I can’t really add more than what the title says. The stock p-bass pickups on my Vintera 60’s style sounded absolutely fine and that was my problem they just sounded fine despite the vintage winding and what not. Since upgrading to the “stock” P-Bass split coils from Fralin my Bass sounds how it always was meant to sound and matches that vintage tone verbatim.
