Prewired Strat Pickguard FAQ's
General FAQs
Here are quick answers to common questions we get:
-
Can I return my pickguard?
No. Your pickguard is completely custom-built for you, so we cannot accept returns.
-
What warranty applies to the pickguard?
10 Years on our Pickups, 1 Year on electronics, parts, and pots.
-
What does the baseplate do?
The Baseplate adds a touch of power and output to the Bridge pickup. This mod is removable and is only available on certain models.
-
What does the Bright Switch mod do?
The Bright Switch modification adds a bit of clarity, brightness and output when you pull up on the push-pull modification. This mod only affects pickups installed with 250K pots, so it won’t work on our Steel Pole 43’s and High Outputs.
-
What does the Volume Kit do?
The Volume Kit (or Treble Bleed circuit) prevents your tone from getting darker when you roll your volume down.
-
Does my Pickguard come with Hardware?
Yes! We ship all pickguards with the screws needed to install your pickguard.
-
Do you sell Matching Backplates (Tremolo cover)?
Yes, we do! Simply check “Add matching backplate” in the “Options & Upgrades” box.
-
Can I send you my pickguard to wire up?
Yes, you can! Order a Prewired Pickguard from us and let us know in the “Notes” field that you are sending us a Pickguard. Don’t select Tortoiseshell / Pearloid options as they are more expensive. Reference your invoice number on the new pickguard you send to us. Please note, you do not get a refund if you send your own pickguard in.

My third set of Fralin pickups and as always they delivered beyond my expectations. Great tone as always. Thanks to all.
-
Ordered with vintage hots in neck and middle and sp42 in bridge. Incredibly happy with my purchase. Was worried that the vintage hots would be too bright but they’re the perfect balance of lows, highs and mids. The sp42 is a fantastic bridge pickup and sounds amazing with distortion. Can’t recommend fralin pickups enough.
-
Steel 43s are amazing. So versatile, I can get sparkly clean or down and dirty overdrive tones. The tone shaping option is well worth it.
-
I’m a huge fan of fralin pickups. I just got a set of the 54’ strat pickup’s they so awesome. I put them in a guitar build I did smooth as ice and clean or beefy and chunky distorted.
In my humble opinion there is not a better manufacturer for pickups. Love my pickups -
This is my 3rd set of Fralin pickups. The first set was for my tele and I can only describe them as 3D. The second set was actually the Analogman Big T’s( manufactured by Fralin) These are on my Diddleycaster and are nice, loud and balanced. The set I’m reviewing today is a prewired strat pickguard loaded with SP43’s. So far I’m digging the sound of these bad boys. Loud and beefy. I wanted a strat that would keep pace with my Les Paul (classic 57’s) and they suggested the SP43’s. By now I trust these guys completely so I went with their suggestion. The quality of the prewired guard is second to none. Practically military spec wiring! I haven’t seen wiring this neat since I opened up an OG Hiwatt. If you have a Fender that just ain’t sounding right I strongly suggest contacting the folks at Fralin! I will be returning for more pickups in the future, I’d be a fool not to. Thanks to everyone at Fralin, you guys Rock AND Roll! ?

I just want to make sure you receive my sincerest thanks and gratitude for providing me with such an incredible work of art in the loaded pickguard you made for me… I am OVER THE MOON with all of the amazing tones!!…. This guitar is shimmering and jingling like I’ve never heard before… Hearing all of the finger noise and unintentional harmonics has immediately made me a better and more conscious player….
Thank you all again for such a world-class one-of-a-kind product and for helping to unlock my potential!!

Pickups sound awesome
Wiring mods (blend and push-pull tone) sound awesome
Wired about 100x more neatly than I could have done.
A+

Delivered in timely manner and assembled as requested. Placed in my frankenstrat and it sounded amazing.
-
Great workmanship and wonderful tone: vintage hot strats in the neck and middle and Blues strat in the bridge. Plenty of output and rich, thick tone. Couldn’t be better!
-
Great job on building me a pick guard full of juicy tone!! Just love it! The VH are perfect and sound exactly like they should. The quality of workmanship is inspiring and it was a breeze for someone like me to install. Very little soldering experience.
-
The vintage hot and sp43 combination are the best strat pickups I have ever heard. Really magic.
I didn’t like the quality of the pick guard (flimsy) and the aged white knobs and pickup covers were just barely beige …mostly just white knobs. The pick guard I removed from my Fender Eric Johnson Virginia was cream colored as were the knobs and covers in comparison .
But sonically the Fralin pickups are just spectacular. -
Great pickups but… pickup height adjustment screws on the Fralin Blues pickups (which are hot) pick up static electricity from strumming; noisy audible clicks from Blues pickups mounted on a Fralin “hand built/ hand-wired” pickguard which is largely unshielded. Replacing with a fully-shielded Fender pickguard.

These pickups are awesome, especially with the Split Steel Pole Strat Bridge! My Fender Pro Strat finally sounds and performs like it should. The one thing I wanted was a bridge pickup that wailed, and I got it. The Blender pot is really useful. Instead of rolling off the high end using the tone control, I can blend in some of the neck pickup. The result is the same except there is a bit more body in the sound because of the added signal from the neck pickup. Best upgrade ever. It was also stupid simple to do. Lindy provides great documentation on how to install
-
Installed my pre wired pickguard, loaded with the Blues Specials in my Warmoth strat. Great quality and improved tone in the middle and neck positions. Unfortunately, the bridge Blues Special, with the base plate just was not what I was looking for. Purely a matter of taste. I should have gone with something hotter in that position for the type of music I play. Ended up swapping out the bridge pickup with a Dimarzio Super Distortion single. I’m sure I will find a use for the bridge pickup somewhere down the line.

Hi All, mine is a preloaded guard with three Real 54s. It’s installed on a 1994 40th Anniversary USA Strat, replacing a Bare Knuckle guard with Irish Tours I installed years ago. The Tours are AlNiCo 5 and overwound, likely similar to Blues Specials. They absolutely scream for leads. But I just couldn’t find the tone I hear from vintage Strats, especially at low volume. I’m still tweaking to find the right gain and eq at gig volume, but these Real 54s are magical. The neck is pure Strat, like the sound clip on Lindy’s site. Positions 2 and 4 are to die for. With the bridge tone goosed up a couple of notches, there is no treble loss in position 4 like I was hearing before. I should note I requested non-RWRP for the middle. Maybe it’s in my head but to my ears straight just sounds clearer. I also requested the tone bleed circuit to preserve highs when you roll back the volume. Awesome, a must have! A bone to pick however: the guard comes shielded only at the controls. At my first gig the hum with overdrive was manageable as long as I turned and stood exactly the right way. With distortion it was like a constant horn blowing no matter what I did short of killing the guitar volume. I’ve since had the cavity and guard fully shielded. Wow what a difference, highly recommended. This is probably the closest I’ll ever get to a real 50s Strat, so for what I was looking for I’m super happy with this change. Have emailed the shop and spoken with Lindy a couple of times now about this project and my other guitars, and the man knows so much he’s just amazing. Thanks to Lindy and the entire team, you guys rock!

I ordered a pre-wired strat pick guard loaded with a set of blues specials that replaced stock set of fat 50’s. The pickups achieved exactly what I was looking for, a thicker, more well rounded sound. The turn around time was excellent, the workmanship is excellent and the pick ups offer a distinct upgrade to the original sound of the stratocaster.
I have one comment regarding the blender pot. I decided to try out the blender pot in leu of the traditional tone pot in the bridge position. My experience is that it doesn’t offer much in the way of tone shaping. It is very slight. I think that if I were to do it again, I would probably stick with the traditional strat set up with the two tone controls.

The prewired guard was a quick and perfect drop-in fit in the Squire Strat I wanted to upgrade. It looks great and works beautifully, fully meeting my hopes and expectations.
The improvement in sound over the stock Squire pickups is quite significant. Clean tones are very good, although I think there’s a limit to what the Squire Strat can do, for reasons other than the pickups. (I say that based on comparisons to my pre-CBS vintage Strats.) However, the pickups sound GREAT when I add a bit of sweetening through light (or heavy) overdrive pedals.
I’m very satisfied. This was money well spent to take this very inexpensive guitar to a higher level.
-
Absolutely perfect Strat sound! I put this on a MIM Buddy Guy Strat (which feels amazing) and now it’s my favorite guitar. The Vintage Hots are clear and glassy for sure, but they’re not thin sounding. They’re warm and woody, exactly how I had hoped. I couldn’t be happier and I will be ordering more in the future.
-
Received the Prewired Strat Pickguard loaded with Vintage Hot pickups. Absolutely love it. The tone is great – definitely upgrade to my Strat. Because it was prewired, installation was super easy. It was a pro wiring job that I was able to install myself. Very happy!
-
Workmanship and detailing outstanding. Tone may be in the ear of the beholder but anyone would be hard pressed to fault these in any way. I think the balance and articulation is conspicuously better than most. My only disappointment has been the taper of the volume pot (more like a on/off switch), which also has some audible scratchiness out of the box. The taper may have been a misunderstanding on my part.
