Features
Our 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups feature a huge-sounding bottom-end and clarity. We wind these Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass Replacements to 60’s specifications, using top-of-the-line materials to give you a clear, open tone: all across the board. Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.
These 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups consist of local fiberboard and USA-Made Magnets. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

Sound
Fralin 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups offer a wide tonal range. They are wound to 60’s Specifications, which give them more output and balance. Expect a sweeter tone, with a warm midrange. Also, you’ll hear top-end sparkle and clarity. Nuances will come to life as you notice increased presence. They will break up late and stay clean longer.
Our Pickups are dynamic – they’ll get punchy if you dig into them. They’ll have top-end spank when you slap them. You’ll also notice they’ll stay soft and dynamic when you play light. Finally, these Jazz Bass Pickups are for those who are not happy with the tone from stock pickups. These tend to be sweeter-sounding, not aggressive. You’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch earlier.
We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and less highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

This is my second set of Fralins for my bass projects. They are all builds from Warmoth bodies and necks. First was a set for a P bass and it is absolutely what I wanted for playability and sound. Excellence!
This review is for the Jazz V bass I have just completed. I ordered up a set of Fralins standard output. The five string pickups are exactly what I required in building this instrument. The clarity of the B string is extraordinary, as well as the other strings. I heard the bass playing on a YouTube video so I didn’t expect much. But I could hear, even in a low quality audio signal that the bass cut through the band, mix and the video. Way beyond my expectations and way beyond anything that the F factory is going to make available to people crafting their own instruments.
If you are considering a project bass or replacing the inexpensive, mass produced OEM pickups on your current bass I would highly recommend trying out the Frailin Jazz Bass Pickups.
Thank you Lindy

I bought Lindy Fralin 10% over wound 5’s with cream covers – which dropped without modifications, for my 2000 Mexican Jazz 5 in May 2024. I like the cream coupled with the vintage white and tortoise shell pick guard. The bass has an East J Retro preamp. I have been playing around with the new pickups for a little over a month. Noted Improvements: Increased output – preamp on or off; deeper, solid bass in your face tones; smoother highs; improved articulation compared to stock pickups; super satisfying B string attack and tone; INCREASED OUTPUT. I play with two guitarists and a drummer. My Ampeg PF 500 volume is set at 11:00 and my bass volume knob usually stays about halfway up.So far I have been truly satisfied with my purchase. I want to thank Mr. Fralin for his knowledge and personal assistance, through a phone call, in helping me make such a positive choice. I also want to thank Mr. Fralin and the rest of the Lindy Fralin family for their dedication to musicians all over the world.

So this was my first time buying new pickups for a bass and I guess I was a bit underwhelmed. The pickups sound good don’t get me wrong, but for the price (plus conversion because I live in Canada) I feel like it wasn’t a huge upgrade from the stock pickups in my MIM jazz. I went with the 5% overwind, and maybe that was a bad move on my part cause I like a really clean and metallic tone, but I did reach out to the team and they told me the under/overwind was a subtle shift in tone so I just went for it. I do think these pickups respond to my drive pedals a bit better than the stock ones though. All that to say, these sound great but I feel I could’ve just stuck with my stock pickups and been content but hindsight is 20/20.

Hey Conner, thanks for your honest review! Give us a call or shoot us an email and we can work out an exchange! You might want to go with the Stock Output pickups – they are a bit clearer and more vintage-sounding.
