Features
Our 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups feature a huge-sounding bottom-end and clarity. We wind these Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass Replacements to 60’s specifications, using top-of-the-line materials to give you a clear, open tone: all across the board. Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.
These 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups consist of local fiberboard and USA-Made Magnets. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

Sound
Fralin 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups offer a wide tonal range. They are wound to 60’s Specifications, which give them more output and balance. Expect a sweeter tone, with a warm midrange. Also, you’ll hear top-end sparkle and clarity. Nuances will come to life as you notice increased presence. They will break up late and stay clean longer.
Our Pickups are dynamic – they’ll get punchy if you dig into them. They’ll have top-end spank when you slap them. You’ll also notice they’ll stay soft and dynamic when you play light. Finally, these Jazz Bass Pickups are for those who are not happy with the tone from stock pickups. These tend to be sweeter-sounding, not aggressive. You’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch earlier.
We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and less highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

I have +10 jazz pickups in two jazz basses (a fretted and a fretless Lakland 55-60 JO). They allow me to push out a strong powerful tone that works for full, fat jazz and R&B songs and a mid range punch for funk and fusion. Articulate, even, and powerful, Lindy Fralin 5 string Jazz bass pickups have taken my jazz basses to the next level.

perfect

5 string jazz +10 overwound are amazing. Stronger output that is lower and punchy…as advertised. Band mates noticed the difference! Thank you all at Lindy Fralin!

I’d been planning on changing out the pickups in my Made in Mexico Fender Standard Jazz V for quite awhile. The stock pickups weren’t terrible, but they certainly lacked the oomph and growl that I’d like from a J bass.
I looked at a lot of options, listened to samples, and read and watched reviews. In the end I was convinced to buy Fralins. I’m certainly glad I did.
When I made the order, I received an automated message that it might take a few weeks. But in the end, it was way faster than that. The new pickups arrived within about a week (including going through customs). I was kept informed of shipping progress the whole time. And Fralin sent a few emails about installation while I waited.
When they arrived, they fit perfectly. Quick install with no issues.
And, yes! They sound great. Exactly what I want from a J bass. Powerful, great tone, responsive. I’m looking forward to performing with them!
(Now I’m contemplating changing out my P bass…)
Thanks so much, Lindy and team.

Hi LF
Just finished installing Jazz Bass V +5% set in my 2012 Fender JB V.
The stock pickups were good but a bit wimpy, not much more when you dig in.
The Fralins are fantastic – really nice full sound and great dynamics. Lots of grunt and punch.
Perfect. -
I love this set – super clear jazz bass tone. It is so worth the upgrade. I even removed the active preamp and made the bass completely passive.

REALLY COOOL
-
Love these pickups!! Fralin rules!!
-
These pickups made my Fender Jazz Bass V Elite come alive, BIG improvement over the Noiseless PU’s it came with. I have a 76 J Bass that has that great growl. I can get that with these and so much more in tonal variety. I’m glad I did the swap for the Fralin’s!

Hi.
Today I installed your pickups on my Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe V. Well…they’re simply Amazing! It’s the first time I use your products…and I really love them…the best bass pickups I ever listen. Zero noise and what a sound!Thank you so much for all.

Previously tried a few other brands in my Warmoth Jazz 5 and couldn’t get a sound I loved. Tried a set of these with stock winding, paired with a Sadowsky onboard preamp and DR Fat Beams, and now this bass sounds amazing!
-
I tried many well known brands and seems like its really hard to make 5 string pickup sounding like vintage 4 string bass. Fralin is closest!
-
Jazz Bass 5 String – These actually were a gift for our youngest and not our first purchase. Our youngest has Fralins in both of his basses and I have them in all my basses (three J’s and a P). Best pickups for me and what I do and they’re the only pickups I recommend when I’m asked about my basses and preferences.

Fralin pickups are superb
I got Fralin pickups on both electric basses I own. The tone, the response, the frequency spectrum, the attack/punch, and dynamic are there. It much easier to articulate with Fralin than with other pickups. Unfortunately, there is noise while the balance between neck and bridge pickups is not at 0 (in the middle). I understand that’s the nature of the single-coil pickups. It doesn’t bother me most of the time. Fralin is my favorite! -
Fat! So it wasn’t easy, but it was well worth it. the pickups didn’t fit, even after working with the guys to make both bobbins the same to fit into the space left by Seymour Duncans in my Mike Lull MV5, requiring routing, grounding, and a new pickguard. But it was so worth it – the bass sounds gigantic – has gained in presence in mid-lows without losing clarity. It sounds the way I always imagined this bass to be capable of. Thank you, Lindy Fralin!

Finally the sound I was looking for . . .
I never really bonded with the active electronics in my Fender 5-er, realizing I prefer the passive set up. These 5% overwinds have way more punch and balance. -
Killer!
-
Put these on a fretless with La Bella Flatwounds. It’s the best sounding bass in the whole world now. I love the sound of the 5% overwind. It’s the perfect thump from the neck, and amazing tone from the bridge.

10% Overwound 60’s J.B. Five Sting Set
I am very pleased with these pickups. I have them paired with a John East Retro Active/Passive preamp and a Hipshot kickass bridge on my Squire JB Classic V. The sound is rich and Fender on Steroids.
-
It’s my first experience with Lindy Fralin and definitely the sound, tone and playability came to my bass! The dynamic sound is great! I never played with this sound! Thanks a lot Fralin!
