Features
Our 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups feature a huge-sounding bottom-end and clarity. We wind these Lindy Fralin Jazz Bass Replacements to 60’s specifications, using top-of-the-line materials to give you a clear, open tone: all across the board. Our manufacturing process allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control.
These 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups consist of local fiberboard and USA-Made Magnets. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.
Features:
- 60’s Fender specifications, built for 5-String Jazz Basses
- Clean and clear, lots of Fender sparkle and clarity
- USA-made Alnico 5 Magnets for optimal tonal balance and output
- Compensated Bridge for even volume across all pickups
- Two magnet staggers available for different fingerboard radiuses
- Hand-wound with our “Sectioning” technique for unique, dynamic tone
- Hand-built fiberboard Bobbins for unrivaled quality control
- 10-Year Warranty on manufacturing defects
Sound
Fralin 5-String Jazz Bass Pickups offer a wide tonal range. They are wound to 60’s Specifications, which give them more output and balance. Expect a sweeter tone, with a warm midrange. Also, you’ll hear top-end sparkle and clarity. Nuances will come to life as you notice increased presence. They will break up late and stay clean longer.
Our Pickups are dynamic – they’ll get punchy if you dig into them. They’ll have top-end spank when you slap them. You’ll also notice they’ll stay soft and dynamic when you play light. Finally, these Jazz Bass Pickups are for those who are not happy with the tone from stock pickups. These tend to be sweeter-sounding, not aggressive. You’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch earlier.
We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:
- For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
- For a thicker midrange and less highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
- If you’re looking for a little cleaner tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

Jazz Bass 5 set: There is not my first experience with Fralin pickups and I can say they are by far my favorite! Thank you for the great products!
-
Clarity Plus!
The clarity that comes through with these pickups is a vast improvement over the stock Vintage Modified. I now really enjoy playing my Jazz 5 bass now that I’ve dropped in this set of Lindy Fralins. No hype, just fact. Thanks!

Upgrade to my MIM Jazz
The new pickups sound great! Reasonably easy to install and setup. I also really appreciate all the available videos!! -
So i picked up this Blond Squire 5 string like Chucks a while back.
Tried multiple brand strings but just couldn’t get over the crazy harmonics all over the scales
Truth is, it spent more time on the guitar stand …Eager to play it, i searched to see what was available, what could help this great lil’ bass sound better.
Read a few forums that spoke highly of these aftermarket pickups, could they be all that?
Ordered a set, wired them in as I had the others, with a master volume, blend pot & tone .
Simply Amazing … the transformation was incredible, the tones smooth through out the neck.
Now for the head stock … wish i could post a picture : )Bottom line, when your axe sounds great, it inspires the ears and mind, and less time on the stand!
There is no coincidence for all the 5 star feedback! Thanks Lindy

The best pickups I’ve ever had! I have these on my fretless J bass with tape wounds and it has the clarity to really bring out all of the nuances of my bass. A++ stuff

Can you tell me more about the pick guard dummy coil thing??? How does that work?
-
I believe Ilitch Electronics have made these in the past. It’s a ‘Dummy Coil’ that helps reduce hum. Check them out!

Realmente Excelentes…. que más podría agregar…Saludos…

Thrilled.
Put these in a 5 string squire “precision” that looks like a jazz pickupwise. Had to rout out the holes to fit them then steal the foam from the old less than stellar pickups. Also put in a 470k resistor on each of the 500k mini volume pots to get them near 250K sounds great. Lots of power and amazing tone. I think it’s better than my ‘76 precision that has 1964 fender pre pickups. Love the decision to go with these pickups. Best $200 sound investment available in my mind

Installed in Warmouth Jazz Bass 5 string bass: I’m delighted with the performance of this pickup. I’ve had previous experience with your products (J-style) with my 4-string Custom and the results where great. Highly recommended!

Looking for that Fralin’s sound !
I own a Lakland Joe Osborn 5 string and, the bass had the optionnal Hanson overwound pickup… I was missing some mids! Always been happy with Fralin pickup! One of my P-bass still have an old Fralin and my backup Jazz bass also! Always satisfied! Only suggestion, for internationnal shipping you should offering USPS shipping… Fedex charge me a broker charge… just add the option! Fralin is my favorite custom pickup! Tahnk you!!! 🙂 A -
Big Improvement
I replaced the OEM pickups and pre on a Fender American Deluxe Jazz. I paired these with an Audere pre but in truth I would go straight passive next time. Nevertheless the pickups are a huge improvement. Real authentic Jazz bass tone. My Jazz bass went from staying in the case to being my # 1 main player! I’ve tried the other brands and can say Fralins are by far the best. -
The real vintage sound. These pickups are amazing.
-
I installed Lindys in my 2008 American Standard 5 string passive Jazz Bass. This is how a Fender Jazz ought to souns. 1000 percent improvement.
-
Awesome Pickups!
I installed these pickups in my Lakland Daryl Jones model 5 string bass, definitley made a big difference, I even went as far as putting Emerson Custom Passive electronics back into the bass, after installing a pre-amp for the previous set of pick-ups which I wasn’t able to get the sound I desired from, Overall, The Lindy Fralin pickups got me the tone I was looking for, and having spoke to Lindy directly on the phone prior to my purchase sealed the deal for me, I give these pickups, and this company a 5 star rating, and will be upgrading several of my other basses to the Lindy Fralins as well. Hi, can you make this 5 string jazzbass pickup in noiseless version aka. split version like your 4 string J-pickup?
-
Hey Janis,
Thanks for your question – we’re working on a few prototype designs, but these designs are just in the infant stages of development at the moment.

First I would like to state that speaking with Lindy personally was a pleasure. Very kind and pleasant person who was helpful when answering my questions concerning my particular needs. I paired the Fralin pickups with the John East J-Retro preamp and couldn’t be happier! They also sound outstanding on their own when the preamp is not in use. My 2000 Fender American Deluxe Jazz V was active only and having the option to go passive is a wonderful asset. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a set of great sounding 5 string Jazz bass pickup replacement.

This is how a jazz bass should sound. Other jazz bass’s do not sound as good to me anymore after playing my bass with the Lindys. I will be asking Lindy to make something for another bass very soon. Customer service is also as good as it gets at Lindy Fralin, very helpful nice people who care very much about every detail. Thank you, Lindy Fralin and employees, for the really great pickups!

The 5-string Jazz Bass split-J pickups that I got were custom made using EMG 40 housings. The custom made split-J pickups replaced the EMG DC pickups that came with the bass. Definitely prefer the sound I’m getting with the custom made split-J 5 pickups.
