Our Tone starts here: our manufacturing process. It allows us to achieve unparalleled quality control. Our pickups consist of USA-Made magnets and wire. Our bobbins are hand-built using local fiberboard and incredible attention to detail. We wind each pickup by hand, one at a time. Each pickup is wound using our proprietary “Sectioning” technique. This gives the pickup a sweet, clear tone.
We assemble each pickup one at a time, by hand. This allows us to achieve unbeatable attention to detail. Finally, we wax-pot the pickup to preserve the pickup and prevent microphonics.

Finally finished my ‘51 PBass build with the 5% overwound pickup. I’m super pleased all around with the sound and quality of the pickup. Another reviewer mentioned that this pickup is a drop in fit in the Rosser bodies and I found that the case as well. Perfect fit. Tone wise I had asked which winding they recommended going for that Keith Ferguson sound on the first Fabulous Thunderbirds albums. They recommended the 5% overwound version and to my ears it definitely sounds right. I’m not experiencing any 60 cycle hum with this single coil pickup so if that’s a concern I’d say with properly installed pickup and controls grounded correctly, at worst the hum is likely to be minimal or not there in my case. There’s a lot of good info here on the Fralin website for installing pickups and how to properly ground guitars. Worth a read and look if you are going to install the pickup on your own or you are troubleshooting hum in your guitar.
If you are looking for a ‘51 single coil pickup, this is an excellent option.

I bought a new American Vintage II 1954 P bass, loved everything about it even the tone except that all the pole pieces were the same height but the neck radius is 7.25″ This means that the A and D strings need to be raised higher than the E and G. With a flat pickup the a and D were louder than the E and G so I had them make one with the two middle poles raised. This was just what the doctor ordered, Their pickups sound just like the Fender pickup, maybe better, but make it much easier to set them up. Before I got it I was always fiddling with string height, neck relief, on and on. With this new pickup I’ve got it playing and sounding exactly the way I wanted it to sound, I bought a new Fender bridge that fit perfectly but allowed individual string adjustments and also allowed the use of Rotosound strings which I’ve loved for decades.
All in all I feel these pickups are a vast improvement over the stock ones in sound and ease of set up.
