Raised Centers

Choose this option if you want raised center pole piece magnets on your bridge. This helps with string balance on fingerboards with a radius of less than 9.5 inches. Do not choose this option if you have a flat fingerboard.

Neck-Sized Bridge

In some cases, Fender Mexican Jazz Bass will have an equal-sized Neck & Bridge pickup. We can make this for you. Measure your pickups, and if they are the same, check this box!

Sound

Fralin Jazz Bass Pickups offer a wide tonal range. They are wound to 60’s Specifications, which give them more output and balance. Expect a sweeter tone, with a warm midrange. Also, you’ll hear top-end sparkle and clarity. Nuances will come to life as you notice increased presence. They will break up late and stay clean longer.

Are you looking for a Hum Cancelling Jazz Bass pickup that actually sounds like a Jazz Bass? Check out our Split Jazz!

Our Pickups are dynamic – they’ll get punchy if you dig into them. They’ll have top-end spank when you slap them. You’ll also notice they’ll stay soft and dynamic when you play light. Finally, these Jazz Bass Pickups are for those who are not happy with the tone from stock pickups. These tend to be sweeter-sounding, not aggressive. You’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch earlier.

We offer (3) winding options to help you determine the perfect tone:

  • For an era-authentic 60’s tone, use our “Stock Wind”, or, choose “N/A” under output preference
  • For a thicker midrange and fewer highs, choose +5%. This will reduce the highs by 5%, and increase the lows and mids by 5%.
  • For an even thicker tone than the +5%, you can opt for +10%. This is perfect for anyone looking for an aggressively strong midrange and dark tone. Perfect for balancing out a bright sounding bass.
  • If you’re looking for 70’s Jazz Bass tone, use our -5% wind. This will increase the highs by 5%, and decrease the mids by 5%.

I first discovered Lindy Fralin pickups when they came with a Lakland Joe Osborn bass I bought in 2001. Quite true to the sound of original 60s pickups, but even better! Later got a set of Vintage Hot Tele (world’s best Tele pickups) and now this set of JB pups went into a Vintera II 60s bass. Tremendous upgrade over the stock pups! I have the bass set up so that it plays really well, it looks great, and only needed the Fralins to bring it to professional level. World’s best Jazz Bass pickups!

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love these pickups. My homemade Jazz Bass now sounds like a Jazz Bass, after going through a few other brands. The bass sounds monstrous.

I also.have your Telecaster 10% overwound bridge pickup in my homemade Telecaster (10 years). AND, the pickup you Custom made for my homemade 8 string lap steel (early 90s). All incredible.

    Thank you.

Superb. Great company, great support, excellent products. This review is for prewired Jazz Bass control plate and Jazz Bass pickups, which I had purchased from Thomann prior to the plate. Both products went into my Geddy Lee signature Jazz, bought new in 2007. The original pickups were good, but a bit muddy, so this year (2024) I searched for something different. After reviewing what internet had to say and watching Lindy’s interviews, I decided on Lindy Fralin pickups. An excellent choice it was. Feeling the sound could possibly still be improved, I ordered the control plate straight from the source. It has taken the sound of my Jazz in my ears to another level of clarity, which is what I was after. I almost equally appreciate the support LF Pickups provide, both via email and website articles – one of those stopped me in time from possibly degaussing my new pickups with the transformer soldering gun. I highly recommend both products, which were in their standard Fender versions.

The stock American Standard Jazz Bass pickups were sounding dull. I went through a bunch of tone pedals to try and fix it, but nothing was working.

My guitarist suggested to replace the stock with some hand wound pickups.

After some research I decide to swap with the single coil, neck and bridge, Fralin Jazz p/u

They punch, roar and growl. There is a sparkle and life to the bass sound I did not have before. And these are with some 6 month old played, round wounds.

I could not be any happier.

Amazing sound and punch added to my 89 Japanese Fender JB62 jazz bass. 10% overwound on the bridge PU and 5% on the neck PU. They bring out the “ mwah “ and natural resonance of my bass. Never sounded better!!

Well, I’ll join all the other five out fives! The new stock wounds are great. The raised poles perfectly balance the strings on my MIJ Jazz Bass, and now let me set the pickup height optimally (closer in this case). Strong signal, lots of bass, and a bright, full, springy tone. Very well balanced across the spectrum. This is the surprise for me. The pickups are really responsive to playing touch, and don’t channel me to a particular sound like the old ones which just had one trick. I’ve now got more options and tones to explore. Better get busy then… Thanks Lindy and Team, another happy customer 🙂

I love these things. I have a Jazz bass with a well worn-in set of flats on them. Only problem is the existing pickups were lackluster. I put in a new tone circuit and these Fralin pickups and now I’m getting exactly the kind of period correct growl and bark I’m looking for.

This is my 4th order from Lindy Fralin. I’ve been extremely happy with my 3-PJ’s, but this is my first Jazz Bass Pickups order. I had the Bridge pickup overwound +10% for midrange bump and slightly higher output. It made an inexpensive Squier, sound like a Classic 60’s Bass Guitar! I also own a ’75 Fender Jazz and don’t know which Bass sounds better?
Thank You Lindy Fralin, for making Excellent Quality Pickups!

I received my pups awhile back, but I hadn’t gotten a real test of them until recently.
I used my Jazz on a recording session last week and all I can say is WOW!!!!!
they performed beyond my expectations and even my band was impressed with the fat round tones coming out of the bass.
I can’t say enough about how amazing they are.
I would say to anyone not pleased with their tone to give a set of these pups a try before buying a new bass!!

I got a deal on a Squier VM Jazz Bass (left handed) that was too good to pass up. I’m a “one pickup bass” guy, so I ordered a 5% underwind Jazz neck and had it installed solo, with low and hi cut tone knobs.
Ladies and gentleman, I had never heard a bass before! I can only describe it as like playing the low notes on a Steinway piano… absolutely insane. And I cannot get an unusable sound out of it. I’m absolutely blown away.
Also, y’all are missing out if you ain’t getting the underwind. Keep turning up the gain, it just gets fuller!
I cannot emphasize how much I love this pickup??
For what it’s worth, the VM Jazz has a 9.5 inch radius fretboard, so I did get the raised centers… also a good call

I have a decent bass but wanted to freshen things up a bit. Given that it has good hardware and construction I opted to upgrade the OEM pups.
It was a great call. The clarity and the low end on the Fralin Jazz pick ups far exceed what was on the bass. This took a decent bass to the next level and made me smile immediately when I started playing. These pickups arrived quickly, were true to size and easy to install. I would recommend them to anyone looking to do the same
    Thanks!

I bought the Jazz Bass pickups and Prewired Jazz Bass Control Plate. My stock Fender bass went from stock to AMAZING! I’ve played bass for a few decades and I’m also a professional music mixer. My new Fralin pickups improved my bass sound way beyond my expectations. In the studio these pick ups are magic. I’m recording bass tracks that are phat and punchy. My Jazz Bass finally has the sound I’ve been searching for.

On stage my bass is full and tonally even from low to high and my band now has a new solid thump. In my search for a bass sound I’ve spent a lot of money on basses, microphones, mic pres, DI boxes, bass amps and cables. Fralin pick ups are an excellent reminder that sound quality starts at the source.

I bought a set of 5% overwound Jazz Bass pickups for my 2007 Spector NT-2J. I replaced the stock EMG active pickups/Aguilar preamp. The sound difference was immediate and INCREDIBLE! This bass has new life breathed into it. The tone is bright, the bottom hits hard, and when you dig in, it has that growl that you get from a great Jazz bass. WIth Rotosound LD66 roundwounds, it sounds like a hammer hitting piano strings. These pickups are the real deal.

  15. Thorsten Hellmuth

Bought these at a german retailer. Installed them (with a friend’s help. Danke Micha!) in my Squier Vint. Mod. Jazz Bass 77. Installation was blissfully easy, although it was a first for us. What really amazed me: I was a very reluctant slapper until now, cause I never really liked the sound of this bass when slapped. This has changed drastically: Slapping now sounds amazing and “professional” (soundwise) in any position or combination. I now have a variety of slap tones at my disposal, each with it’s own special appeal. Of course the fingered sound is amazing, too. This is the sound i’ve been wanting for years. With this bass I can cover a wide range if genres, styles and sound. For me, that would be funk, soul, reggae, jazz but also progressive rock and Zappa-esque stuff.
To be honest, people at Lindy Fralin: I chose your pickups on a hunch and i will never regret it. You’ll definetely be on board when I think it’s time to upgrade my Epiphone ES-335.

  16. Jeff S Lectka

I picked up an early 90s Fender Fotoflame Jazz on a whim because it was light, balanced, and played beautifully. In taking it apart and doing a string change and setup I discovered cheap electronics and wasn’t all that impressed with the pickups.
Some high quality pots, wiring, and Fralin pickups made this thing a beast. The sound is clear, fat, dynamic, punchy, and everything I need a Jazz to be. The difference between these pickups and whatever Fender Japan was using is substantial.

The pick ups sound amazing! I bought the standard wound pick ups with raised centers for my squire modified vintage ’77 jazz bass. It transformed the bass into a great, warm sounding instrument with a great jazz bass sound.

Dropped these pickups in my 2001 Mexican Jazz bass and immediately heard a difference! I gained more clarity, punch, and tonal nuance. Installation was easy and the support from the company second to none!
